You never know who'll show up

Nov. 20, 2008 ComedyJuice Hollywood gets huge drop in comics all the time. Dane Cook, Sarah Silverman, and Dave Attell all come by regularly. They may be as famous and as well liked as Dave Chappelle, but he is the self described "bigfoot" of the celebrity comic world.
He is rarely seen or heard from, so when he drops by, it seems rather news worthy. Rolling up to the club in a non-descript mini van, he clearly as kept his humble disposition. He was cheerful, friendly, and seemed at peace with everything. At one point an audience member shouted out "Season 3" referring to his old Comedy Central show. He took a pause and said "Maybe you haven't read the papers." then took a pause and added "Disaster."
Dave reported that he is still living in Ohio and when asked if he's working on a new special, he responded with a smile and by saying "I'm working on having too many kids." He admitted he hadn't been on stage in awhile to the crowd who gave him a standing ovation both coming and going after his 45 minute set.
He had written a lot of new jokes about Obama being president, the economy being messed up, and even quipped that he could have voted for McCain when he said, "I might have voted for McCain because Obama says that his plan will lower taxes for 95% of Americans... who do you think is in that other 5%?" As all the other times I've met him, he seemed most relaxed when on stage, his real home.
Maybe the best moment of the night came when there was an applause break for something an audience member had shouted. In a quiet moment a fan simply yelled, "Dave, glad you're alive and doing fine." I think we all are.
This was the second time Chappelle has appeared at ComedyJuice Hollywood.
